A Meir kitchen sink grid, sold under the Lavello name across much of this range, is an extra protective layer that sits in the bottom of your kitchen sink. It is not a sink itself, it is an accessory designed to sit inside a sink bowl and take the daily impact that would otherwise land directly on the sink surface.
Why add a sink grid
The main reason to add a grid is protection. Pots, pans, cast iron cookware and cutlery dropped or placed heavily into a bare sink bowl can scratch, dent or chip the surface over time. This matters more for softer sink materials such as granite composite, where scratches and impact marks are more visible and harder to buff out, and it also protects stainless steel bowls from the scuffing that builds up with daily use. A grid also lifts items slightly off the base of the bowl, which can help water drain away from dishes and cookware sitting in the sink.
Single bowl versus double bowl
Meir sink grids are made in configurations to suit both single bowl and double bowl sinks. A single bowl sink needs one grid sized to that bowl's footprint, while a double bowl sink will generally need a grid to match each bowl, or a specific double bowl configuration if one is offered. Before ordering, confirm which bowl configuration you have, since a grid sized for a single bowl sink will not sit correctly in one half of a double bowl setup.
Matching grid to sink model
This is the most important step when buying a Meir sink grid. Many products in this range are listed against a specific Meir sink model number, for example as a protection grid for a particular MKSP model code. The grid needs to match the exact dimensions of your sink bowl to sit flush and function properly, so before ordering you should confirm your sink's model number or exact bowl dimensions and check that the grid you are choosing is listed as compatible with it. A grid that is the wrong size will not sit securely and may not protect the areas of the bowl it is meant to cover.
Colour and finish options
Grids in this range are available in a number of colours, including options such as Brushed Bronze Gold and Gunmetal, so buyers renovating a kitchen with a particular tapware or hardware finish can choose a grid that coordinates with the rest of the space rather than defaulting to a plain finish.
Before you order
- Confirm whether your sink is single bowl or double bowl
- Check your exact Meir sink model number before selecting a grid
- Match the grid to the specific model or dimensions listed as compatible
- Consider colour and finish if you want the grid to coordinate with tapware or other hardware
- Remember a grid is an added protective accessory, not a replacement for the sink itself
