How to choose the right bathroom mirror size

How to choose the right bathroom mirror size

Choosing the right bathroom mirror size is essential for both functionality and aesthetics. A well-proportioned mirror enhances daily routines and complements your bathroom's design. Here's a guide to help you select the perfect mirror size, shape, and style for your space.

Match the mirror to your vanity

A general rule is to select a mirror that is slightly narrower than your vanity. Typically, a mirror 50mm to 200mm narrower on each side creates a balanced look.

For example, with a 900mm vanity, opt for a mirror between 600mm to 800mm wide.

Choose from a great selection of coloured frames, timber frames and frameless mirrors at The Blue Space.

Consider your mirror height

The mirror's height should allow all users to see themselves comfortably.

A common guideline is to position the mirror so that it starts 100mm to 250mm above the vanity and ends at least 150mm below the ceiling.

Make sure when setting out your mirror position, you consider your tapware if it is wall mounted.

Single vs double vanity considerations

For a single bowl vanity: A single, centered mirror works best.

For a vanity with double bowls: You have two options:

  • One Large Mirror: Provides a cohesive look and can make the space feel larger.

  • Two Separate Mirrors: Offers a balanced, symmetrical appearance, especially when centered over each sink.

The choice depends on your aesthetic preference and the overall design of your bathroom.

Benefits of a bathroom mirror

Beyond serving as a tool for grooming, bathroom mirrors offer several advantages:

  • Enhance Lighting: Mirrors reflect both natural and artificial light, brightening the space.

  • Create the Illusion of Space: Especially in smaller bathrooms, mirrors can make the area feel more expansive.

  • Add Style: With various shapes and frames available, mirrors can serve as decorative elements that complement your bathroom's design. Also look for options with built in LED lights.

Bathroom mirror shapes

Rectangle: A classic choice that suits most bathroom styles, offering a clean and straightforward look.

Round: Softens the space and pairs well with modern or minimalist designs.

Oval/Pill: Combines the softness of round mirrors with the length of rectangular ones, ideal for contemporary settings.

Arch: Adds an elegant touch, perfect for traditional or vintage-inspired bathrooms.

Irregular/Organic: Provides a unique, artistic flair, suitable for eclectic or modern designs.
