Nero Taps Buying Guide
Nero taps are designed in Australia and made in Nero's own factory, with basin mixers, wall sets, bath spouts and fillers, shower mixers, kitchen and laundry taps across a family of named ranges. The same range names and finishes run from the basin to the shower to the towel rail, so Nero suits anyone who wants one consistent look through every room.
What are Nero taps made from?
Most Nero taps are made from lead-free DZR (dezincification resistant) brass, with ceramic disc cartridges for smooth control and reliable shut-off. The Zen and Pure ranges are made from 316L stainless steel, which Nero recommends for outdoor kitchens, coastal homes and pool areas. Nero has used low-lead materials in its drinking water products since April 2023, and spare parts such as cartridges, handles and hoses are available for most models.
Which Nero tap range should I choose?
- Mecca: a cylindrical body and slim pin lever, with the widest finish choice. Suits minimal, contemporary rooms.
- Bianca: a flatter, architectural profile with softened edges, including sensor taps.
- York: heritage cross handles or white porcelain levers and sweeping spouts for period and farmhouse homes.
- Opal: knurled, faceted handles that work as a feature in an ensuite or powder room.
- Serenity: curved, organic forms, with marble or metal handle options.
- Zen and Pure: minimal 316L stainless steel designs with a progressive handle.
- Dolce and Ecco: simpler, softly rounded and minimal lines.
What finishes do Nero taps come in?
Chrome and matte black are electroplated. Brushed nickel, brushed gold, brushed bronze, gun metal, graphite, aged brass and PVD black are PVD finishes, and matte white is powder coated. Brushed finishes hide water spots and fingerprints well, and chrome is the easiest to care for. The same finish name can look slightly different across products because of shape and lighting, so view items side by side or order a colour sample before buying a full set. To care for any finish, wipe the tap dry after use and clean with mild detergent and a soft cloth, avoiding harsh chemicals and abrasive pads.
What should I check before buying a basin tap?
Most basin mixers need a single 35mm tap hole. Match the tap height to the basin: above counter and vessel basins need a tall or mid tall mixer, or a wall set, while inset and undermount basins suit standard mixers. Check that the spout reaches the centre of the bowl; Mecca wall spouts, for example, come in 185mm and 230mm lengths. Long, high spouts need good water pressure.
What do I need for a Nero wall mixer?
Wall mixers need an in-wall body roughed in before tiling. Mecca and Bianca pair with Nero Premium bodies, Dolce and Ecco with Project bodies, and Zen and Pure with 316L stainless steel bodies. Check whether a set includes the body, trim and spout, and choose a 60mm, 80mm or separate back plate shower mixer to suit your style. A licensed plumber must install all tapware.
Which Nero kitchen taps are available?
Options include standard and gooseneck sink mixers, pull out mixers with a vegie spray, smart sensor pull out mixers, three-way filtered mixers, pot fillers and laundry taps. Kitchen and basin taps carry drinking water, so they must meet lead-free requirements; laundry trough taps do not.
