Ingrain Mirrors Buying Guide
Ingrain mirrors are built around four repeating shapes, round, arch, pill and rectangle, offered in metal frames, ash timber frames or frameless with built-in LED lighting. Because the same shapes run across every finish, it is easy to match a mirror to your tapware and vanity. The range suits ensuites, main bathrooms, powder rooms and, with the full length arch, hallways and bedrooms.
What finishes do Ingrain mirrors come in?
The metal framed mirrors have aluminium frames in matte black, brushed nickel, brushed gold and burnt brushed gold, with 5mm copper-free glass and a 38mm depth. The timber framed mirrors come in an ash finish, 31mm deep, as a 600 x 1000mm arch, a 600 x 1000mm rectangle and an 800mm round. Frameless versions put the focus on the glass and the light. Match the frame to your tapware, or contrast it on purpose, such as a brushed gold frame against black taps.
What sizes and shapes are available?
Round mirrors come in 600mm and 800mm, and the frameless frontlit round in 700mm or 800mm. The arch is 500 x 900mm, the pill is 460 x 910mm (or 500 x 850mm and 500 x 900mm when lit), and the rectangle is 750 x 900mm plain or 600 x 800mm lit. The full length arch is 1500 x 600mm, can be wall hung or leaned against a wall, and comes in matte black, brushed nickel or brushed gold.
Which Ingrain mirror suits my vanity?
Choose a mirror about 70 to 80 per cent of the vanity width. The 460mm pill suits a vanity of about 575mm to 655mm, the 500mm arch about 625mm to 715mm, and a 600mm round about 750mm to 855mm. The 800mm round suits a vanity of about 1000mm to 1145mm, and the 900mm wide rectangle, hung sideways, suits about 1125mm to 1285mm. For a double vanity, hang a narrow pill or arch over each basin with at least 100mm between them.
Should I choose a frontlit or backlit Ingrain mirror?
Frontlit mirrors send light towards your face, reducing shadows for shaving and make-up, and suit windowless bathrooms and shared family bathrooms. Backlit mirrors cast a halo on the wall behind and suit rooms that already have good task lighting. The Ingrain pill frameless frontlit and backlit mirror does both. Every lit Ingrain mirror has a touch sensor with stepless dimming, a demister, 6500K light and an IP44 rating. The demister heats in 3 to 5 minutes and switches off after 60 minutes.
How are Ingrain mirrors installed?
Mark two screw positions in line with the mounting plate using a tape and spirit level, drill, plug and fix the screws, leaving 4 to 5mm exposed, then hang the mirror. The supplied plugs suit brick or stone, so use suitable anchors on other walls and screw into studs where possible. Centre the mirror at about 1500mm to 1650mm from the floor. Lit mirrors must be hardwired, earthed and tested by a licensed electrician, and are for indoor use only.
How do I care for an Ingrain mirror?
Clean with warm water and a soft lint-free cloth, wrung out before wiping, then dry straight away. Avoid acid, alkaline or abrasive cleaners and mirror sprays containing ammonia or vinegar, and never spray directly on the glass. Keeping the edges dry prevents black edge. Timber frames are best in a well-ventilated room, while the aluminium frames handle humidity well.
