Ingrain Non-LED Mirrors Buying Guide
Ingrain non-LED mirrors are plain, unlit mirrors with metal or timber frames, in round, arch, pill and rectangle shapes plus a full length arch. They suit bathrooms that already have good ceiling or wall lighting, powder rooms and entries, and anyone who wants a framed mirror to match their tapware without wiring.
What shapes and sizes do Ingrain framed mirrors come in?
Rounds come in 600mm and 800mm. Arches are 500 x 900mm, pills are 460 x 910mm and rectangles are 750 x 900mm. The full length arch is 1500 x 600mm for a dressing area or hallway. The timber framed range adds a 600 x 1000mm arch, a 600 x 1000mm rectangle and an 800mm round.
What frame finishes are available?
The metal frames come in matte black, brushed nickel, brushed gold and burnt brushed gold, depending on the shape. They are aluminium, 38mm deep, with 5mm copper-free glass that resists the black edge spotting caused by moisture. The timber frames have a soft rounded profile in an ash finish, 31mm deep, designed to sit alongside Ingrain vanities. Match the frame to your tapware for a cohesive look, or contrast it deliberately with one other finish.
What size mirror should I put over my vanity?
A mirror that is about 70 to 80 per cent of the vanity width usually looks balanced. On a 600mm vanity that is roughly 420mm to 480mm, on 900mm about 630mm to 720mm, and on 1200mm about 840mm to 960mm. If wall lights sit either side, go a little narrower. The 460mm pill and 500mm arch suit compact vanities, while the 800mm round and 750 x 900mm rectangle suit wider ones.
How high should a bathroom mirror be hung?
Most bathroom mirrors are centred around 1500mm to 1650mm from the floor. Leave 100mm to 200mm between the top of the tap and the bottom of the mirror, and keep the top edge at least 100mm below the ceiling. Check the eye level of the people who use the basin, and check that taller mirrors still clear the ceiling once the tap height is added.
Do I need an LED mirror or will a plain mirror do?
A plain mirror works well when the room has good lighting. Light from the ceiling alone can cast shadows on the face, so many people add a wall light on each side of the mirror. A plain mirror is also easier to install, with no electrician needed, and leaves the light fittings free to change later.
How do I hang and clean a framed mirror?
Fix the mirror to studs where possible, or use cavity anchors rated for the weight on plasterboard. Have two people lift larger mirrors, especially the full length arch. Clean the glass with a soft cloth and a mild glass cleaner sprayed onto the cloth, not the mirror, so liquid does not run into the frame edge.
