Toilet Seats Buying Guide
This collection holds replacement toilet seats, hinge caps and bidet seats from Caroma, Fienza, Seima and Lafeme. It suits anyone replacing a worn or cracked seat, upgrading to soft close, adding a child seat for toilet training, or fitting a bidet seat to an existing pan.
Do all toilet seats fit all toilets?
No. Seats differ in shape, hinge spacing and fixing method, and a seat that doesn't suit the pan will sit crooked or loose. Common shapes are round, elongated, D shape and oval. A D shape has a flatter, squarer front, while an oval curves evenly. Many seats are designed for specific pans: the Caroma Xena is designed for Luna toilets, and the Fienza Universal UF seat suits the Fienza Delta and Koko suites. How do I measure for a new toilet seat?
Measure the ceramic pan, not the old seat. Take three measurements: the hinge centres (from the middle of one fixing hole to the other), the pan length (from the hinge hole centre line to the front edge), and the widest point across the pan. Compare these with the seat's specification. Caroma's Family D shape seat has a measuring guide that also covers non-Caroma pans.
What is the difference between soft close and quick release?
They are separate features. A soft close hinge has dampers that lower the seat and lid slowly, which stops slamming, reduces noise and helps protect the pan from chips. A quick release seat lifts off at the press of a button so you can clean under it and around the hinges. The Caroma Liano, Xena and Urbane II and the Fienza Universal UF seats have both. The Caroma Profile offers a standard or soft close hinge, and the Trident is a snap-on seat with adjustable pan fittings. For families, the Caroma Family D shape seat adds a detachable child seat that sits against the lid on magnets, with a soft close adult seat and lid and GermGard protection.
What bidet seats are available?
The Lafeme Thea, Thea Luxury and Catania are electric bidet seats with a heated seat, adjustable water temperature, rear and feminine wash settings, warm air drying and a self-cleaning nozzle. They plug into a power point, which in a wet area must be installed by a licensed electrician. The Lafeme Una and Vera are non-electric and wash with cold water only. Lafeme rates its bidet seats to 170kg. The Caroma electronic bidet seat lists the suites it fits and includes backflow components to AS 2845.2. A licensed plumber should connect any bidet seat.
Can I change the colour of my seat hinges?
Yes. Caroma hinge caps come in stainless steel, matte black, PVD brushed brass, PVD gunmetal and PVD brushed bronze, in two sets: one for Urbane, Contura and Riviere seats and one for Liano, Arc and Xena seats. Seima hinge sets come in matte white, brushed nickel, brushed gold, gunmetal and matte black. Caps cover the hinge but don't replace it.
How do I care for a toilet seat?
Remove a quick release seat to clean underneath. Wipe it with warm soapy water and avoid abrasive or harsh chemical cleaners, which can damage the finish and soft close dampers. If the seat moves, re-tighten the fixings evenly, alternating sides, without over-tightening against the ceramic.
