Toilet Hinge Caps & Buttons Buying Guide
Toilet hinge caps and flush buttons let you change the finish of your toilet's visible metal parts so they match your tapware. This collection includes Caroma hinge caps and round flush buttons, Seima hinge sets and cistern buttons, and Turner Hastings flush buttons in finishes such as brushed brass, brushed nickel, matte black, gunmetal and brushed bronze. They suit anyone renovating, updating fittings or running one finish through the whole bathroom.
Are toilet hinge caps and buttons universal?
No. Each hinge cap is made for a particular seat family, and each flush button is made for a particular cistern range. Check the compatibility line on the product page against your toilet's make and model before you order. If a part doesn't fit, the cause is almost always the model, not the finish.
Which Caroma hinge caps fit my toilet?
Caroma makes two families of caps. The Urbane, Contura and Riviere caps come in brushed brass, matte black and gunmetal, and fit the Contura II, Urbane II and Luna Slim toilets, but not the Urbane II Luxe suites. The Liano, Arc and Xena caps come in brushed brass, stainless steel, matte black, gunmetal and brushed bronze, and fit the Liano and Luna suites and the Liano, Luna, Arc and Xena seats. The caps are metal, about 51mm across, with PVD or electroplated finishes.
Which flush button suits my cistern?
The Caroma round metal flush button, in brushed brass, brushed nickel, matte black and gunmetal, fits cisterns in the Urbane II, Contura II, Liano, Care 800, Care 600, Leda, Luna, Opal II, Profile, Sovereign and Clark Universal ranges. The Urbane II button in brushed bronze suits the same ranges. The Caroma Luna round buttons, in brushed brass, brushed nickel and satin black, suit Luna toilet suites only. The Seima cistern buttons suit the Seima Modia wall faced suite, and the Turner Hastings rectangle button suits a close coupled back to wall toilet.
What does the Seima hinge set fit?
The Seima hinge set is a pair of cover plates in matte white, brushed gold, brushed nickel, matte black or gunmetal. It is made for the Seima Modia Slim Seat on the wall faced and in-wall suites. Seima toilets come with chrome buttons and stainless steel hinge covers as standard, and the colour parts replace them.
Will a hinge cap fix a loose toilet seat?
No. A hinge cap only covers the hinge fixing; it doesn't change how the seat is held. A loose seat needs its bolts tightened, taking care not to overtighten against the porcelain. A cracked or broken hinge usually means replacing the seat. If the seat is in an accessible bathroom, have the seat and fixings checked before changing the caps.
How do I fit and clean caps and buttons?
To fit a Caroma round button, screw the nut onto the button assembly from under the cistern lid, fit the button with the half flush on the left, check the markings sit square to the back wall, then hand-tighten the nut. Clean caps and buttons with a soft cloth and warm soapy water, then dry. Avoid abrasive, acidic or bleach-based cleaners, and keep bowl cleaner off the metal finishes. Lifting a quick release seat off makes the hinge area easier to wipe.
