Otti Basins Buying Guide

Otti basins are above counter basins in fluted, oval, round and square shapes, made in ceramic, concrete and solid surface. Finishes include gloss white, matte white, matte black, matte grey and a Carrara marble look. The range suits bathrooms and powder rooms where the basin is a visible feature on the vanity top.

What Otti basin shapes and sizes are available?

The range covers compact rounds and wide ovals. Rounds include the 395mm Oxford fluted round, the 400mm Hudson fluted round and the 360mm Radius in a Carrara matte marble look. The Archie is a 415mm fluted arch shape. Ovals include the Artis O'96 at 455mm or 480mm, the Bronte at 500 x 350mm, the Quay at 500mm, the Noosa at 585mm and the Hudson fluted oval at 600mm. The Hudson also comes as a 520mm fluted square.

What material are Otti basins made from?

Most are fine ceramic, which is hard-wearing and easy to clean. The Hudson fluted basins are concrete, which gives a heavier, more textured look. The Noosa is solid surface, a smooth, matte material that can be lightly buffed if it marks. The Artis O'96 480mm pairs a matte black outside with a matte white bowl.

Do Otti basins have an overflow or tap hole?

No. These basins have no overflow and no tap hole, so the tap is mounted on the bench or the wall. They take a 32mm pop-up waste without an overflow, sold separately, so add it to your order and match its finish to the tap. The Oxford and 400mm Hudson round suit a tap at 10 or 2 o'clock or on the wall, while the Hudson square, Hudson oval and Noosa suit a 12 o'clock tap or wall tapware.

What tap height do I need for an above counter basin?

Choose a tap that clears the basin rim and reaches near the centre of the bowl. Otti basins stand about 100mm to 150mm above the bench, so a standard basin mixer is usually too short. Use a tall basin mixer or a wall spout, and check the spout reach against the basin depth and the tap position.

How is an above counter basin installed?

The basin sits on the vanity top over a hole cut for the waste. It is fixed with a neutral cure silicone, not epoxy, around the base, and the waste is connected by a plumber. Most countertop basins need a bench depth of at least 400mm to 500mm to clear the splashback, so check the basin size against your vanity before ordering.

How do I clean ceramic, concrete and solid surface basins?

Use a soft cloth and mild, pH-neutral cleaner on all three materials. Avoid abrasive pads and harsh chemicals, especially on matte finishes, which show dull patches more than gloss. Fluted basins collect residue in the grooves, so give them a quick brush during regular cleaning.

Completing the room

Pair your basin with an Otti vanity, then add a 32mm basin waste and a tall mixer from basin mixers. For other designs, browse fluted basins and above counter basins.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know which basin mixer is right for my basin type?

The key factor is the height and style of your basin. For standard inset or semi-recessed basins, a regular deck-mounted basin mixer with a spout height of around 100–140mm works well. However, if you have an above-counter or vessel basin, where the bowl sits on top of the benchtop, you will need a tall basin mixer with a spout height of 180mm or more, otherwise the spout will sit below the basin rim and water will splash onto the benchtop. Wall-mounted mixers offer another option for above-counter basins, with the height controlled by your rough-in position. Always confirm basin rim height before purchasing your tapware.

What is an above counter basin?

An above counter basin (also called an above bench or vessel basin) sits on top of the vanity benchtop rather than being inset into it. The full exterior of the basin is visible, making it a strong design statement. Above counter basins are available in ceramic, stone, concrete, and composite materials in a range of shapes, round, oval, rectangular, and sculpted forms.

What is an inset basin?

An inset basin (also called a top-mount or drop-in basin) drops into a pre-cut hole in the benchtop, with the rim of the basin sitting on top of the benchtop surface. This is one of the most common basin installation types in Australian bathrooms and suits a wide range of vanity styles. Inset basins are practical, secure, and easy to replace without changing the benchtop.

What is a wall hung basin?

A wall hung basin is fixed directly to the wall with no vanity cabinet below, it is cantilevered off the wall with the waste pipe running up the wall or through the wall behind. Wall hung basins give a bathroom a very open, spacious feel and are popular in powder rooms, compact ensuites, and contemporary minimalist bathrooms.

What is an undercounter basin?

An undercounter basin (also called undermount basin) is installed below the benchtop surface, with the benchtop material cut to the basin opening and the basin bonded underneath. This creates a seamless, flush benchtop with no rim or lip, water and mess can be wiped directly from the benchtop surface into the basin.

What is a semi-recessed basin?

A semi-recessed basin sits partially into the benchtop (or vanity top), with the front portion of the basin protruding beyond the front edge of the cabinet. This allows for a shallower vanity cabinet (often 350 – 400mm deep instead of the standard 450 – 550mm) while still providing a practical basin size. Semi-recessed basins are ideal for narrow bathrooms where depth is at a premium.
