Tile Trends for Australian Homes in 2026: What’s In & What’s Out
Planning a reno in 2026? Here’s what’s trending in bathroom and kitchen tiles across Australia and what’s starting to fade.
If you’re renovating this year, you’ve probably noticed tile styles have shifted a bit. Things feel warmer. Softer. Less showroom-perfect and more liveable.
So what’s actually trending in Australian homes for 2026?
In: Bigger tiles (but not for the sake of it)
Large format tiles are still popular, especially in bathrooms. Think 600x600mm or 600x1200mm. They create fewer grout lines and a calmer look, which works well in both small ensuites and bigger family bathrooms. It’s less about “going oversized” and more about creating clean, continuous surfaces.
In: Warmer neutrals
Cool grey is stepping aside for softer tones, beige, almond, warm white, gentle stone shades. They pair beautifully with timber vanities and brushed finishes, and they feel less clinical.
In: Texture over pattern
Instead of bold patchwork everywhere, we’re seeing subtle texture fluted tiles, handmade edges, natural stone movement. Feature tiles are still very much in, just used with more restraint. A splashback, a niche, a powder room wall.
In: Full height splashbacks
In kitchens, tiled splashbacks are stretching higher. Running tiles up to the ceiling (or under overheads) gives a more finished, intentional look.
What is out?
Icy, blue-toned greys
They can feel a bit cold now.
Busy feature walls in every room
A little goes a long way.
High-gloss everything
Matte and low-sheen finishes feel softer and more forgiving.
Trends are helpful, but they’re not rules. The best tile design is one that suits your home and how you actually live in it.
