Caroma Wastes & Traps Buying Guide
This collection holds the Caroma parts that sit under a basin, a bath or a shower floor: pop-up plug and wastes for basins and baths, the long dome pop-up waste, 40mm bottle traps and square floor wastes. It suits anyone finishing a Caroma basin or bath, or matching the plumbing below the bowl to Caroma tapware.
Which Caroma waste fits my basin?
Start with the basin model, because some Caroma wastes only fit certain basins. The Caroma basin dome pop-up waste is designed for the Liano II, Urbane II and Contura II basins and will not fit other basins. The standard Caroma basin pop-up plug and waste suits a wider range. If you are replacing an old waste, look for the model name on the underside of the basin or in the original paperwork before measuring.
Can a pop-up waste be used with or without an overflow?
Many can. The Caroma dome pop-up wastes suit Liano II, Urbane II and Contura II basins with or without an overflow, so one product covers both bowl styles. For other models, check whether the basin has an overflow slot under the rim and confirm the waste suits it. A bath waste is chosen separately, using the Caroma bath pop-up plug and waste.
What is a bottle trap?
A bottle trap is a compact trap shaped like a small cylinder that sits below a basin. Like any trap, it holds a small amount of water that stops sewer gas from rising through the drain. Bottle traps are popular under wall hung basins and open vanities because they are visible and look tidy. The Caroma 40mm bottle traps come in chrome, brushed brass, brushed nickel, gunmetal, white and matte white with chrome, with an Urbane II version in matte black.
What finishes are available?
The wastes in this collection come in chrome, black, brushed nickel, brushed brass, brushed bronze and gunmetal, and the coloured options use a PVD finish. Caroma designs its waste and trap finishes to match its tapware and showers, so you can carry one finish from the mixer down to the drain. Choose the waste and trap together to keep the colour consistent.
What size floor waste do I need?
Match the floor waste to the outlet pipe set in the floor. The Caroma square floor wastes in this collection have an 80mm outlet and come in brushed brass and brushed nickel. Your plumber sets the outlet size at rough-in, so confirm the size with them before ordering a grate.
How do I keep a waste draining well?
Lift or unscrew the plug every few weeks and remove hair and soap build-up. Wipe the cap with warm soapy water and a soft cloth, and avoid abrasive cleaners on PVD finishes. A bottle trap can be unscrewed at the base to clear a blockage, so place a bucket underneath first.
