For wall-mounted bath mixers, Australian plumbing practice generally positions the mixer centreline at approximately 700mm from the finished floor level, keeping in mind that most standard baths sit 550–650mm high. If you prefer the spout to sit above the bath rim for easy access, a height of 900–1050mm centreline is common for wall-mounted spouts positioned over a deck or ledge. For two people sharing the bath, consider mounting the spout centrally on a wall and the mixer offset to one side for easy reach before getting in. Always discuss final heights with your licensed plumber before rough-in.

A freestanding bath is a bathtub that stands independently on the floor with no enclosing walls or built-in surround, it's visible on all sides and is typically the centrepiece of the bathroom. Freestanding baths suit larger bathrooms where there's adequate floor space around the unit. They are one of the most popular design choices in Australian master bathrooms and ensuites.

Standard freestanding baths in Australia range from 1400mm to 1800mm in length. A 1500mm bath suits most adults comfortably and fits in ensuites with a floor area of around 2.5–3 sqm or more. A 1700mm bath offers a more generous soak. Always measure the available floor space and allow clearance on all sides for both plumbing access and aesthetic breathing room.

A corner bath is designed to fit into the corner of a bathroom, with the tub angling into the room and two flat sides sitting flush against the walls. This configuration is space-efficient in layouts where a standard alcove bath doesn't fit, and it opens up the centre of the bathroom.

Corner baths can actually work well in compact bathrooms because they use the corner space, often underutilised, rather than claiming prime floor area. However, the actual water-holding area of many corner baths is comparable to or smaller than a standard bath, so it's important to check internal dimensions before purchasing. The Blue Space offers corner bath options including the popular Bao Bon Back to Corner Bath range.

A back to wall bath has a flat back panel designed to sit flush against the bathroom wall, while the front and sides have a freestanding design that's visible. This gives the appearance of a freestanding bath while using the wall for structural support and plumbing concealment. Tapware is usually wall-mounted behind or beside the bath, and the waste is hidden within the wall or floor.

Back to wall baths offer the aesthetic appeal of a freestanding bath with the practical benefit of concealed plumbing and a more compact footprint. They're ideal for bathrooms where a fully freestanding bath would feel too exposed, or where wall-mounted tapware is preferred for a cleaner look. They're also easier to waterproof and tile around compared to centrally positioned freestanding baths.

The key differences are floor space, plumbing flexibility, and aesthetic. A freestanding bath suits larger bathrooms where plumbing can be positioned centrally. A back to wall bath is a better choice for smaller or narrower bathrooms, or where wall-mounted taps are preferred. Both can achieve a high-end look, the back to wall format is simply a more practical solution for many Australian bathroom layouts.

A spa bath is a bathtub fitted with jets that pump pressurised water or air through nozzles in the bath walls to create a therapeutic massage effect. Water jets provide a deep-pressure massage, while air spa systems create a gentler, bubbling sensation. Some models combine both systems for a customisable experience.
