Meir Taps Buying Guide
Meir taps are rounded, architectural tapware for the bathroom, kitchen and laundry, made in a wide range of matched finishes. The collection covers basin mixers, wall mixers, wall spouts, bath fillers, shower mixers and kitchen and laundry mixers, so you can carry one finish through every room of the house.
Who makes Meir taps and what are they made from?
Meir is an Australian, family-owned company founded in 2012. Its taps are made from DZR (dezincification resistant) brass, with parts and components from Switzerland, Hungary and Spain. Most basin and sink mixers use a 35mm ceramic disc cartridge in a solid brass body, and all Meir taps are WaterMark certified. Mixers that need a WELS rating carry 4 or 5 stars; the Piccola tall basin mixer is listed at 5 litres per minute.
What finishes do Meir taps come in?
- Polished chrome: bright and classic, suits white tiles.
- Matte black: strong contrast against white basins and pale tiles.
- Brushed nickel: a soft silver with a subtle warm undertone, PVD coated.
- Champagne: a softer, rosier alternative to gold.
- Tiger Bronze and Lustre Bronze: warm bronze tones, both PVD. Lustre Bronze was developed with designer Darren Palmer.
- Shadow: a dark grey PVD finish for dark cabinetry and concrete-look tiles.
Finishes are matched across each range, so mixers, spouts, showers, wastes and towel rails read as one set.
What is the difference between pin, paddle and pinless handles?
A pin lever is a slim, minimal handle; a paddle handle is wider and easier to grip with wet or soapy hands; and Pinless designs drop the lever for a cleaner silhouette. Other ranges include Piccola, a petite design with a contoured spout, and Circular wall taps with quarter-turn ceramic disc cartridges. Choose the handle first, then match the finish.
Which Meir basin tap suits my basin?
Match the tap to the basin height. Above counter and vessel basins need a tall mixer, such as the Piccola tall basin mixer, or a wall mixer and spout. Inset and undermount basins suit a standard basin mixer. Most Australian basin mixers need a single 35mm tap hole. For wall sets, check that the spout reach, such as the 130mm or 200mm Round Curved Spout, lands water in the centre of the bowl.
What do I need for a Meir wall mixer?
A wall mixer needs an in-wall body roughed in before tiling. Many Meir wall mixers are sold as a full kit with the trim and body together, and parts are also available separately. Settle the mixer position with your plumber early, because it is locked once the wall is tiled. All Meir taps should be installed by a licensed plumber.
How do I clean Meir taps?
Wipe them with a microfibre cloth and warm water. For limescale, soak a cloth in a mild citric acid solution, wrap it around the tap briefly, then rinse and dry; never spray acid straight onto the tap. Avoid scourers, vinegar, tile cleaners, bleach and ammonia, and don't let water dry on the finish, especially in hard water areas.
