Concealed Toilet Buttons Buying Guide
With an in-wall cistern, the flush plate is the only part of the cistern you see. This collection holds flush plates and buttons for concealed cisterns from Caroma, Geberit-compatible plates from Meir, Fienza and Turner Hastings, plus Seima and Nero plates. The key is simple: find the cistern behind the wall first, then choose the shape and finish.
Will any flush plate fit my in-wall cistern?
No. Each flush plate is made for one cistern or cistern series, so a plate that looks right but belongs to another system will not seat or connect. Caroma Invisi Series II plates fit Invisi Series II cisterns. Geberit Sigma plates fit Sigma cisterns, most commonly the Sigma 8. The Seima 500 Series plate fits Seima in-wall cisterns, and the Nero push plate fits the R&T in-wall cistern. The make and model are usually marked on the cistern itself, which a plumber can read once the old plate is removed.
Can I replace just the flush plate?
Yes. In most cases you can swap the plate without touching the cistern, as long as the new plate is made for that cistern. This is an easy way to update the finish of a bathroom, for example changing chrome to brushed brass to match new tapware. The plate also acts as the service access to the cistern, so repairs do not mean removing tiles.
What shapes and sizes are available?
Caroma Invisi Series II plates come in round, rectangle and oval shapes. The round metal plate is 210mm wide and 110mm high, and the Contura II round button panel is 228mm by 116mm. The Meir Sigma 21 and Fienza Sigma round plates are 246mm by 164mm. The Seima 500 Series plate is a 236mm by 152mm rectangle, and the Nero plate has soft rounded corners.
What finishes do concealed toilet buttons come in?
Caroma metal plates come in brushed nickel, brushed brass, brushed bronze, gunmetal, matte black and white. Meir Sigma 21 plates come in brushed nickel, champagne, lustre bronze, tiger bronze and shadow. Nero plates are 304 grade stainless steel in brushed gold, brushed nickel, brushed bronze, graphite and gun metal. Warm finishes can look different under warm and cool white lighting, so consider the light in your bathroom when you choose.
Are there flush buttons for accessible toilets?
Yes. The Caroma Contura II Invisi Series II round DC button panel has raised care buttons that are easy to press and can be installed to comply with AS 1428.1. Pneumatic buttons on Caroma and Seima plates need only a light touch, which also helps users with limited hand strength. For the full fit-out, see accessible toilets.
Can the buttons be mounted away from the toilet?
Some can. Caroma's rectangular Invisi Series II plate has a remote option that lets the buttons sit up to 4m from the cistern, so they can be mounted on a benchtop or a side wall. Plates with fully concealed fixings mount cleanly on the wall above the toilet.
