Taps Buying Guide
This collection is home to every tap and mixer in the range, for the bathroom, kitchen, laundry and outdoors. It covers basin mixers, wall mixers and outlets, sink mixers, pull out mixers, sensor taps and three-piece sets from Caroma, Phoenix, Nero, Meir, Indigo, Turner Hastings and more. Narrow the choice by room, then by mounting style, then by finish.
What is the difference between a mixer and a tap set?
A mixer uses one lever to set both temperature and flow, so it works with one hand and is quick to adjust. A three-piece tap set has separate hot and cold handles with a spout between them. Mixers suit most modern bathrooms and kitchens. Three-piece sets, such as the Phoenix Vivid Pin Lever bath set, suit traditional rooms and people who like the feel of two handles. Browse three-piece bathroom taps for that style.
Which tap do I need for my basin?
Match the tap to the basin. A standard basin mixer mounts through a tap hole in the basin or bench. An above counter basin needs a tall basin mixer or a wall mixer with a separate spout, like the Nero Opal wall basin/bath mixer with its 185mm spout. A wall spout should be long enough to reach the centre of the bowl.
What kitchen tap should I choose?
For the kitchen, most people choose a gooseneck or pull out sink mixer. A pull out mixer, such as the Phoenix Cromford 230mm or the Nero Mecca with vegie spray, lets you rinse the whole sink and fill pots on the bench. A gooseneck spout gives height for large pots. See kitchen taps and pull out sink mixers.
Are sensor taps worth it?
Sensor taps turn on and off without being touched, which helps hygiene and stops taps being left running. They suit busy family bathrooms, commercial spaces and accessible fit-outs. The Nero Mecca wall mount sensor tap and the Caroma Urbane II sensor hob mounted outlet are two examples. See electronic sensor taps for the full range.
What does WELS mean for taps?
Every tap sold in Australia must carry a WELS star rating showing its flow rate and water efficiency. More stars mean less water used. Basin mixers often carry a higher star rating than kitchen mixers, which tend to have a higher flow so pots fill faster. Taps must also be WaterMark certified for use in Australian plumbing.
Which tap finish lasts best?
Chrome is the hardest-wearing and easiest to clean. PVD finishes such as brushed gold, brushed nickel, brushed bronze and gunmetal are applied as a thin, hard coating that resists wear. Matte black is a popular coated finish that shows water spots more readily. Clean every finish with warm water and a soft cloth, and avoid abrasive or acidic cleaners. Browse by finish in chrome, black and brushed brass taps.
Completing the room
Pair your tap with a matching basin waste or sink waste, and keep the same finish across your showers and bathroom accessories.
