Shower Rose Range Buying Guide
A shower rose is the fixed shower head on a wall or ceiling arm, the everyday Australian name for the part the water sprays from. This collection brings together wall mounted roses and arm and rose sets from Caroma, Phoenix, Fienza, Clark, Nero and Modern National, in round, square and rectangular shapes and a wide choice of finishes.
What is the difference between a shower rose and a rain shower?
Both are fixed overhead heads. A standard rose is typically 150 to 230mm across and gives a direct, even spray that works on most water pressures. A rain shower has a larger, flatter face of 250 to 300mm and gives a gentle, falling spray over a wider area, but it needs good pressure and a roomier shower so water stays inside the recess. Some roses, such as the Nero X Plus All Direction head and the Caroma Luna adjustable shower, tilt to aim the spray.
What size shower rose do I need?
Match the size to your water pressure. Time how long a 10 litre bucket takes to fill under your current shower: under 60 seconds points to good pressure. On a modest supply, choose a 150 to 200mm face, such as the Phoenix Vivid Slimline 155mm or Caroma Luna 200mm. With strong pressure, a 250 to 300mm rose gives fuller coverage. Most roses here list an operating pressure of 150 to 500 kPa.
How high should a shower rose be installed?
Place the arm outlet 2000 to 2100mm above the finished floor, or 2100 to 2200mm for a tall household. Allow at least 200mm between the head of the tallest user and the rose. Set the outlet height with your plumber before the wall is tiled, as moving it later means cutting tiles. A high-rise or gooseneck arm can lift a rose when the outlet sits low.
Is the arm included with a shower rose?
Most products in this collection are arm and rose sets, such as the Phoenix Vivid 400mm arm with a 230mm rose, the Fienza Lillian wall arm set and the Clark Round Basic Fixed Shower. Some are sold as the rose only, so check the box contents. Wall arms typically project 300 to 400mm. Shorter arms suit compact recesses and longer or gooseneck arms push a rain head further out.
What WELS rating should a shower rose have?
Every rose sold in Australia must carry a WELS rating and WaterMark approval. Ratings run from 3 star (up to 9 litres per minute) to 5 star (6 litres per minute). The roses here are mostly 3 and 4 star, at about 7 to 9 litres per minute. A lower flow saves water and energy, but check that an instantaneous gas hot water system will fire reliably at that flow.
How do I clean a shower rose?
Rub the nozzles with your finger weekly to break up early scale, and clean monthly in hard water areas. For a deeper clean, tie a bag of warm water with mild dish soap over the head for 30 to 60 minutes, then scrub with a soft toothbrush and rinse. On matte black, brushed and PVD finishes, avoid vinegar, bleach and abrasive pads.
